Dr. Hyuk Cho is a Professor in Computer Science (CS) at Sam Houston State University (SHSU), TX. He was an Assistant Instructor in CS at UT at Austin, where he obtained Ph.D. and M.S. in CS and a Research Intern in Computer Science Lab at Samsung Information Systems America, San Jose, CA. He received M.A. in CS from Korea University and B.E. in Computer Engineering from Chonbuk National University, Korea (Republic of). He grew up in Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, Korea.

  • Data Mining Tasks such as Pattern Extraction, Recognition, Recommendation, Information Retrieval, Clustering, and Classification
  • Bioinformatics and Computational Biology using Data Mining and Machine Learning
  • Pervasive (ubiquitous) Computing for Situation-Awareness on Mobile Phones
  • Digital Information Forensics using Soft Computing
  • Development of Computational Algorithms on High-Performance Computing Environments/Platforms as well as Open Source Processing Engines such as Apache Spark, TensorFlow, and Deep Learning.
Experience

Dr. Cho's wide-ranging expertise and versatile computing skills with 15 programming languages are indispensable for addressing challenging interdisciplinary research problems as well as for advising students in varied educational levels. He teaches Computer Programming, Algorithm Design and Analysis, Data Mining, as well as Special Topics on Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, and Data Science. I had been invited to teach Advanced Data Mining course at Global School in Empirical Research Methods (GSERM) (June 2018 and June 2019), St. Gallen University, St. Gallen, Switzerland.

Honors and Awards

Dr. Cho's research has been recognized as two best papers and two best presentations as well as his student received numerous (>15) poster/platform presentation awards. Also, he received the Faculty Excellence in Research Award, COSET, SHSU, 2017.
