In 2010 Sam Houston State University entered into a cooperative agreement with Firat University, Elazig, Turkey, with the intent of developing:

  • Joint undergraduate degree programs
  • Exchanges of faculty and students
  • Collaborative research projects

The universities have developed a joint Bachelor of Science degree program in Software Engineering and are currently developing a joint Bachelor of Science degree program in Digital Forensics Engineering.

The universities have enjoyed the benefit of faculty exchanges, with Dr. Peter Cooper teaching Programming Fundamentals I and Introduction to Software Engineering during the 2013 summer session. Prof. Dr. Asaf Varol, department chair of Computer Science at Firat University, is currently at Sam Houston State University as a visiting scholar.
