A team of students from the Sam Houston State University Department of Computer Science were crowned Grand Champions in the annual ‘Defense Cyber Crime Center Digital Forensics Challenge’. The Challenge draws teams from Academic, Government, Commercial and Military sectors each of whom competes to solve the most complex Encryption, Data Recovery, Image Analysis and Steganographic problems. One hundred and twenty six teams from 36 states and 14 foreign countries took part in this years challenge.
The team, lead by Digital Forensics Instructor David Collins, included one senior and two sophomore students. In order to achieve this success, the team had to develop new hardware and software tools, and generate innovative new techniques. The team wins an all expenses paid trip to the 2008 DC3 Cyber Crime conference, to be held in St. Louis, MO in January.
